Physiology of human brown adipose tissue

 

Image removed.Our goal is to provide scientific evidence that will enable us to identify effective strategies for activating and enhancing brown adipose tissue in humans, opening up new avenues for the non-pharmacological management of metabolic and energy disorders.

What are we researching?

Our line of research is dedicated to studying the physiology of human brown adipose tissue (BAT), with the aim of understanding its role in regulating energy metabolism, thermogenesis, and overall metabolic health. We investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control the activation and functionality of brown adipose tissue, as well as its interaction with other organs and systems.

We analyze factors that modulate its activity, such as exposure to cold, diet, physical exercise, or certain bioactive compounds, and their relationship with key indicators such as energy expenditure, insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. We pay special attention to how brown adipose tissue could contribute to the prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.
